Whats Hot?: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for Skin Rejuvenation and Hair Loss

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments are now becoming more popular and have shown a lot of benefits in the fields of Orthopedic Surgery, Rehabiltation Medicine and Dermatology.

It involves the extraction of the patient's blood where it is then processed to produce Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). The PRP is then activated to release various growth factors and injected back into the patient, in our case the skin,  where it stimulates cellular regeneration, repair and restoration.

In Dermatology, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has shown remarkable results for the following:

1. Face Rejuvenation (also called "Vampire Facial" or "Vampire Facelift")

2. Neck Rejuvenation

3. Hand Rejuvenation

4. Acne Scars

5. Platelet Rich Plasma Fillers (combination with Fillers)

6. Hair Loss (PRP Hair Growth Therapy) in both Men and Women

7. Melasma

8. Stretch Marks and Scars

9. Chronic wounds and ulcers

PRP can be applied on the skin with different techniques which may be combined depending on the location and condition to be treated. It is an out-patient procedure that takes around 60 to 90 minutes per session.

In Makati Medical Center (MMC), the Cellular Therapeutics Center (CTC), which is also known as our Stem Cell Lab, are the ones that extract and process the blood from the patient.  The CTC is accredited by the Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) as a facility that may engage in human stem cell or cellular therapy and adheres to global standards in cellular therapeutics practice, training and research. They have been able to check the quality and quantity of the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) produced (should be around 4 to 5 x the normal count) by checking the number of platelets in the syringe to be injected compared to the patient's baseline levels.  This process assures you of the quality and sterility of the PRP you are receiving.
